The pre-seed and seed funding was led by venture firms Electric Capital and Framework, with support from angel investors in the Solana engineering community.<\/p>\n<p>The company is led by former Solana contributor Liam Heeger, who argues that \u201cblockchains painted themselves into a corner by inventing custom Virtual Machines (VMs),\u201d which he believes has prevented mainstream adoption. <\/p>\n<p>Thru is built on the RISC-V standard, an open-source computer architecture not limited to blockchain and crypto-specific use cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An Electric Capital partner named Ren called Thru the \u201cnext logical step\u201d in blockchain development after Ethereum pushed smart contracts and <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/just-scalability-wont-save-the-future-of-solana-heres-the-solution\" target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/just-scalability-wont-save-the-future-of-solana-heres-the-solution\">Solana raised the standard<\/a> on network performance.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/vc-roundup-8-figure-funding-deal-crypto-bull-market\" target=\"null\" title=\"null\"><em><strong>VC Roundup: 8-figure funding deals suggest crypto bull market far from over<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>MIT-incubated Optimum closes seed round<\/h2>\n<p>Blockchain infrastructure developer Optimum closed an $11 million seed round with participation from at least 16 venture capital firms, including 1kx, Robot Ventures, Spartan, Longhash, and Animoca.<\/p>\n<p>Optimum is building a high-performance memory layer for the blockchain using Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) technology, which was developed at MIT by protocol founder Muriel M\u00e9dard.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e9dard, a professor at MIT, <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/scale-fail-rlnc-technology-web3-adoption-mit-professor\" target=\"null\" title=\"null\">told Cointelegraph in March<\/a> that RLNC is akin to \u201cbreaking a puzzle into small pieces, mixing those pieces together into equations, and sending them to your friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if a few pieces get lost, your friends can still put the whole puzzle together from the pieces they receive,\u201d she said in describing how RLNC can help blockchains overcome scalability issues.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/get_optimum\/status\/1916978147117175219\" target=\"null\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/get_optimum\/status\/1916978147117175219\"><em>Optimum<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Octane launches with $6.75M in funding to bring cybersecurity to crypto<\/h2>\n<p>Archetype and Winklevoss Capital led a $6.75 million seed round for Octane, an AI cybersecurity startup focused on detecting vulnerabilities in blockchain systems. Additional investors included crypto exchanges Gemini and Circle.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In its announcement, Octane pointed to data from DefiLlama\u2019s exploit tracker, which shows that crypto attacks have caused over $11.3 billion in losses, more than half of which stem from <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/crypto-hackers-steal-92-m-april-hacked-funds-1-7-b-2025\" target=\"null\" title=\"null\">DeFi hacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The monthly sum of crypto exploits. Additional investors included Coinbase\u2019s venture capital arm, 1kx Capital, OrangeDAO, Script Capital, and South Park Commons.<\/p>\n<p>Inco leverages cryptography to develop confidential computing technology for blockchains. The Series B brings Towns\u2019 cumulative funding to $25.5 million since early 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after announcing the fundraise, Towns revealed plans to launch 10 billion TOWNS tokens on Base and Ethereum in the second quarter of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Towns is an open-source protocol that allows users to build messaging apps for their digital communities.
